Hex Grid Iteration
One of the main things I worked on was the hexagon grid. Creating the system from concept to release. Including level editing tools, score calculations and lots of bug fixing.
The system was designed to allow for many variations of tiles and given the chance I found more ways to make it even more modular if I could make more iterations.
After concepting the game idea I got to work on creating a first prototype for the grid system. This showcased roughly what tech we wanted to make and showed me roughly how the system will need to be made.
Reworking the previous system into a more polished system was my first priority. Afterwards adding on created assets and scoring logic so placed tiles would actually contribute to overall score. Now we could actually play and test the game.

Clicking on tiles in the editor allows you to change which type it is. The editor shows a debug text and changes its look to that of the selected tile. This helped us create many levels quickly. I also created a tool to make tutorial prompts and forced steps (needing to place tiles in certain places). This was used for introduction of new mechanics.

The finishing touches were added to the tiles. Animations, audio and many bug fixes were made to ensure every tile placed had a good feel and consistent functionality. After lots of QA testing and fixing no high risk or major bugs were left and the tiles were ready to ship.
